Split Lighting

1.Which is your favorite portrait photo that you took? Why? I really like the split lighting one because of the distance away from the camera and how dark everything is besides the face. I also like that the details besides the face are incredibly hard to make out but you can tell you are there.

2. Which of these lighting techniques do you think you can apply for future picture taking? Explain. I think I could use split lighting for photos of the sun set and for photos in the family. I think it is the easiest to produce and the best looking one of them all.

What tips/advice would you give another photographer about shooting motion? My advice I would give about shooting motion is to take the photo before the action actually happens. Like when the football is still in the air or right before the catch it will almost always look better than the actual catch. It makes the photo look better as long as the action is happening and not just at the end of the action.

The Slap of 2022

What do you hope your composite image communicates to the viewer? What statement is your piece making about culture today? Explain Give reasons why you chose your images. My image shows how we put actors and people on top of pedestals that we look up to. But when we do this these people are also still human and make mistakes. These photos show Will Smith slapping Chris Rock on top of the stage. Showing that this action will be seen across the world and also showing an example of people we may put on top of the stage doing something bad. I chose the Will Smith slapping Chris Rock photo because it has a really big cultural significance. I chose the 2 comedians because they showed to people on top of a stage and if I combined these two photos I could show the culture of actors having the entire world being an audience to the stage they are always on.

What advice would you give to a person looking to create a composite image in Photoshop? Be specific. My advice is to be patient this photo took me a very long time to edit. Don’t expect things to be fast instead expect that it will take a long time and be patient about it.

What is the distinct mood of the photograph? Explain. For Refraction, the mood is mysterious and interesting. The photo feels deep and makes you feel like you don’t understand what is actually happening in the photo but it just looks good as is.

What does the photo make you think about? Explain. Refraction makes me think about the mystery and discoveries of space. It gives us an image of one of the most unknown things in the universe in a photo through a reflection. It makes me think about what exactly is happening in this photo.

What in the photo jumps out at you? Explain. For Refraction. What jumps out at me is the extremely colorful middle of the photo. The reflection through the apple really makes the photo look mysterious and extremely colorful.

How does the photo make you feel? Explain For refraction. It makes me feel interested in the other mysteries in space and also other beautiful things that have yet to be discovered in space.

What advice would you give to next year’s students for shooting abstract photography? Explain. Some advice I would give is be creatative in the type of photo you choose for refraction. If you choose a photo that already looks good then the reflection will amplify the photo by a significant amount.

Orange is great…

In my house on the couch.

In school outside of the cafeteria on the wall side.

Question one: The reason I chose both of these foods is because they are both orange and orange is the theme of this post. The significance of these foods is showing the bright contrast of orange compared to the other colors of the world. Orange is such a rare and bright color. It’s good to see it in nature as an orange and as a food as a dorito.

Question two: The light source of the second photo is the sun in the middle of the day. It makes the food actually pop a lot more because I lowered the lighting of the rest of the photo. For the first photo, the lighting was from the lighting of my house it was nighttime. I think that this caused the photo to be a bit less vibrant in the color of the orange. It seems like the second photo looks more happy and goofy with the lighting and the first photo looks a bit more surreal.

Question three: I choose black and white so I can affect the brightness of the colors around my vibrant food. I did this because I could lower the brightness so the food stands out so much you are immediately attracted to it. Also, it helped take out some things in the background that could take away from the photo.

Question four: The color and the color splash contribute to my image by just making the food pop a lot. I masked the specific areas of the photo because they were easily the most colorful parts of the photo. The rest of the photo for both wasn’t very colorful or interesting.

Question five: I think that the camera at school really enhances my second image. I don’t remember the actual specs of the photo but you can tell by looking at it, it took so much more detail than my first photo. The first photo clearly is a lot worse because of the camera quality of the iPhone compared to the school cameras.

Question six: The advice I would give to next year’s photograph people is to take both photos with the school cameras. They are much better quality than your phone and will make the photos look much better. Secondly, use more unique shapes of foods instead of just circles it makes the photos look much more interesting to look at.

1. What strengths and weaknesses do you see in your own work? I think I am really good at finding good angles to take good photos. A weakness that I see is sometimes I mess up the focus or the depths of the field. I definitely think that I also rush my photos and they become out of focus because of that.

2. How might you improve or refine your approach in future photography projects? I think I should take a bit more time taking photos sometimes because I can rush to take photos and they end up looking worse than they should be. I also think that I should try and make some of my photos better by taking better photos for example coloring the flower while being the center of the photo is kinda of small for being the big part of the photo. Also, I think that my organic shape photo is way too out of focus and not as good as it should be.
3. Pick one of your photos, what emotions or messages did you intend to convey through this photograph? For my color photo, I really tried to get across the message of seeing different colors. Pink isn’t that common in nature so when you see it, you can see how it pops in nature, and that is what I wanted to get across in that photo. I do also think while I would have preferred if the flower was bigger I think that the smaller flower shows how colors like pink are so rare. The rest being black and white shows that colors should pop and be greatly recognized in nature.
4. Are there specific elements of art you would like to explore further in your photography? I think my organic shape photo needs some work and maybe I can find some way to make photos with this element better. I think instead of trying to find a photo that looks like a circle maybe I can try and take a photo of a leaf or maybe a photo of a rock. This photo of a circular plant doesn’t really look as good as other shapes could be.
5. What concepts or techniques do you want to experiment with in your next project? I want to experiment with more far-away photos or action shots. I tried taking a few action shots but they didn’t come well so I would like to try to improve my shots there. I did have a few fair away shots but only one came out well so I would like to improve on that as well.

I enjoyed the beautiful outdoors and enjoy the gorgeous scenery. I adore this unique class as it presents the opportunity to do this incredible job.

My biggest challenge was finding the things to capture in the amazing outdoors. There were too many things to capture but I was finally able to find the best photos possible.

What I will do differently next time is to take even more time to find the perfect angles and perfect areas to take the most incredible photos ever.
